ISPOR US is moving south this year, taking place in Atlanta, May 5th to 8th. Broadstreet is pleased to be involved in twelve studies being presented on subjects ranging from a systematic literature review of the economic burden of obesity to patient utilities in Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

We are particularly pleased to be presenting some of our own research on using case identifying algorithms in administrative health datasets. In our study, conducted by Broadstreet team members Alexa Bowie, Maria Tinajero, and Christina Qian, we looked at case-identifying algorithms for identifying patients and events in real-world evidence (RWE) studies. Though these algorithms are essential for finding patients for inclusion in RWE studies, few centralized resources exist to support their implementation. We sought to identify and summarize published, validated case-identifying algorithms developed using Canadian administrative health data (as a single-payer health system there is comprehensive, population-level data available to support the development and validation of algorithms). Having found good coverage of Canadian-specific case identifying algorithms across ICD-10 chapters in the study, our intention is to consolidate the findings into a publicly available resource to support the validity and efficiency of future real-world evidence generation (Figure).

The poster about this project, titled “Validated case-identifying algorithms using Canadian administrative health data: A targeted literature review” will be viewable during poster session 5 on Wednesday, May 8th.

Broadstreet Scientific Director Karissa Johnston will also be moderating a panel this year on the value of diagnostic testing when treatment is not available. Panelists include Dr. Richard Rothman, who will share his clinical experience as an ER doctor, Dr. Lon Castle providing a payer perspective and Dr. Lou Garrison discussing the idea of the value of diagnostic information (VODI) and the evaluation of diagnostic tests beyond the current economic evaluation framework.

The panel will take place on May 8th at 10 a.m.
